It had been pointed out at work recently that we had a staff night out and quiz a while back and could we do it again - it turned out that the original quiz was actually 10 years ago!! The HR director was very keen to organise one and be the quizmaster, and so I managed to convince him that it might be a great idea to have the teams pay for their entry, and for the donations to come to The XL Challenge, and following some voting by the teams and some campaigning from me, that’s exactly what was agreed! So teams comprising of between 2 and 4 members from various departments and locations across the UK converged on Abingdon where our head office is based. The quiz comprised of different rounds, including, Music, Film & TV, Sport and a couple of specialist rounds. However once the sport round was dropped (thanks to time constraints and technical difficulties) and we realized that some of the questions were less general knowledge and more like brain teasers, my team from the sales dept. (aka The Guesstimators) had no chance! The eventual winners came from the corporate dept. and they stormed in at the last minute to take victory - so a big well done to The Mixed Bag!

The collection box was getting nice and full from the entry fees and donations, and when I emptied it over the weekend, there was a total of £100 to add to the amount raised so far this year. Big thanks must go to David Williams for organising it and to all my colleagues that came along, had a laugh and donated to the cause.

Oh and there was the promise of a further donation if I go back to Head Office in December and help out with the Secret Santa gift giving extravaganza - although I do have to go dressed as an Elf!!
